This program handbook created by the University of Chicago Urban Teacher Education Program (UTEP) provides readers with an overview of the vision, program design, and campus policies and resources for their teacher preparation program. UTEP prepares teachers for elementary grades k–6 and middle grades 5–8. This handbook details the goals and structure of UTEP and provides an overview of the University of Chicago Education Unit. Additionally, it describes the process of education and assessment through which candidates develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that they will need to be a successful career teacher in Chicago Public Schools. This handbook also includes the course sequence, review of roles and responsibilities, opportunities for alumni support, an overview of observation and evaluation requirements, sample assessment documents, and other materials related to program logistics and expectations.
