Our Journey Towards Disrupting the Impact of Colonization of the “Curriculum” with Students and Faculty

Diana Cornejo-Sanchez and Sarah Barnes
March 2021 | EdPrepLab

Participants explored the impact of colonization on education and reflected on how it impacts their practice as teacher and leader educators. In this interactive Learning Café, participants first unpacked a case study from the High Tech High Teacher Center where the course instructor for Brain Health & Social Emotional Development engaged in critical dialogue to decolonize the syllabus alongside both students and program faculty. Presenters also shared HTH Teacher Center’s process to further examine the syllabus to aim for an anti-racist/anti-biased course. Participants considered implications for their own practice, and in particular, how they might support faculty in taking critical action to decolonize the design of student learning.
