This research report from the Learning Policy Institute conducts a case study on Claremont Graduate University’s teacher residency program. The Claremont residency, a high-quality program with 100% coursework that can be completed anywhere in California, is built around a critical social justice approach and a classroom ecology framework. These core concepts center relationships and interactions between teachers and students; they are also incorporated into all program components. The report continues to highlight aspects of the residency, including its design, structure, clinical experiences, recruitment strategies, resident supports, partnerships with local education agencies, internal program culture, and program outcomes. The goal is to pinpoint why and how these successful programs operate. This resource could be helpful to educator programs looking for ideas and inspiration on how to develop and inform the design of their own teacher residency programs.
