The Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP) of the Stanford Graduate School of Education (GSE) seeks to prepare and support teacher leaders in creating equitable and successful schools and classrooms. This syllabus is for the course Development Foundations of Schooling (EDUC 283), which aims to strengthen participants' understanding of how educational psychology and child development are involved in teaching to make thoughtful classroom choices. The seven class sessions are centered on specific objectives and cover intentional teaching, cognitive development, understanding intelligence, motivation and feedback, identity development, best practices, and access and inclusion. Coursework topics include child and adolescent development, social justice and equity, development and learning, and more.
