In this 1-hour webinar, faculty at Bank Street College of Education, along with resident teachers and mentors, share their perspectives on the purpose and benefits to a teacher residency program. Discussants noted the value of developing aspiring teachers through a context-embedded approach and pointed out that the residency programs provide a pathway and access, through a stipend, to individuals who may not be able to participate in a traditional program. Along with benefits to candidates, mentor teachers note that they learn from their mentees and believe their students benefit academically and socially from having an additional adult in the classroom. Accompanying this video is the publication, Cultivating Powerful Mentorship in Educator Credential Programs, which explores Bank Street’s approach to mentorship and lessons learned through implementation and features interviews with three Graduate School faculty members.
