This series of policy briefs from All4Ed explores the college and career readiness indicators implemented by three states—California, Georgia, and Louisiana—following the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). These resources highlight innovative practices and nuances in each state's approach to measuring student preparedness for higher education and the workforce. In California, the College/Career Indicator (CCI) not only reports the percentage of ready graduates but also provides additional context and detailed data on various student groups. Louisiana's Strength of Diploma index assesses the quality of different high school pathways, incentivizing schools to guide students toward pathways with robust postsecondary outcomes. Georgia stands out by using postsecondary data, specifically examining whether students enroll in college-level, non-remedial courses, providing a unique perspective on measuring readiness. The series aims to assist education leaders and advocates in adopting similar effective approaches.
