This journal article from Education Sciences explores the potential of AI tools for training future teachers. The authors delve into how generative AI, such as ChatGPT, can be used to support lesson planning, enhance critical thinking skills among teachers, and increase access to high-quality educational resources. Benefits of these AI tools include their ability to aid teachers during lesson planning and provide materials that have traditionally been available in privileged contexts. This can essentially “level the playing field” by giving open access to all teachers and, in turn, promoting student outcomes, including for those from underprivileged backgrounds. However, teachers and student teachers should also be aware of the current limitations of generative AI, emphasizing the continued need for human judgment and critical evaluation in the classroom. This resource could be valuable to teachers and leadership preparation faculty seeking to integrate AI thoughtfully and effectively into preparation programs.
