Central Office Transformation for Equitable Teaching & Learning: Self-Study Guide 2.0
This tool from the University of Washington’s District Leadership Design Lab and The Wallace Foundation helps school district leaders prioritize equitable teaching and learning in their daily work. Grounded in research, it challenges traditional approaches that emphasize administration and student sorting, promoting instead a focus on active learning, collaboration, and equity-centered practices. The resource identifies key areas for systemic reform—teaching and learning, human resources, principal supervision, operations, and cabinet leadership—organized into five parts. Each part includes three sections designed to support a structured process: exploration, extension, and team engagement, along with reflection questions to guide decision-making. The tool encourages cross-departmental collaboration, continuous learning, and intentional leadership development to ensure that every student has access to high-quality instruction and support. It serves as a practical framework for district teams to assess current practices, surface areas of inequity, and implement targeted changes that improve outcomes across the system.
