Bridging Pathways: Enhancing Educator Preparation Through Community College Partnerships

January 2023 | US Prep

This policy report from US Prep highlights the challenges faced by Texas community college transfer students pursuing bachelor’s degrees in educator preparation programs. These students play a crucial role in diversifying educator preparation programs and represent a significant proportion of graduates from Texas’s colleges of education. To strengthen their pathway, US Prep has created regional collaboratives called Educator Preparation Partnership Pathways, which involve collaborations between school districts, community colleges, and educator preparation programs. These partnerships aim to address systemic barriers through improved articulation agreements, enhanced advising, and paid apprenticeship programs. By implementing these strategies, educator preparation programs can diversify and improve the quality of their candidate pool while also contributing to broader improvements in the education system. This resource offers valuable insights for program administrators seeking effective strategies to recruit and support community college transfer students as they pursue careers in education.
