This research report from Arizona State University and the Center on Reinventing Public Education analyzes how teacher preparation programs are responding to the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI). Through surveys and interviews with over 500 U.S. education school leaders, the authors explore how faculty engage with AI, their perceptions of AI’s technology, and their own institution’s efforts to embed AI into the school’s curricula and coursework. The data received indicates that few institutions are keeping pace with developments taking place in the classroom worldwide. Furthermore, while most schools are in the early stages of AI integration, they are mainly focusing on training teachers on AI to detect student plagiarism. They are not utilizing its potential to transform teaching and learning. Overall, this brief is helpful to faculty members who seek recommendations on how to help teachers and students adapt to these new learning tools.
