Using ESSER Funds to Support Teacher Residencies: Promising Practices that Align with Federal Guidance
June 2021 | Prepared To Teach
This brief by Bank Street Graduate School of Education’s Prepared To Teach proposes that Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds can and should be used to fund teacher residency programs as a way to combat inequities in quality of education between students of color and their peers. The brief presents the argument for teacher residencies and explains why ESSER funds should be used to support residency programs, including a logic model and explicit connections between residencies and ESSER guidance. The brief provides suggestions for initial steps that local education agencies can use for ESSER planning.
