Toolkit for Improving Family Planning Services in School Settings

June 2022 | Child Trends

This toolkit developed by Child Trends, in partnership with the School-Based Health Alliance, compiles real-life strategies and resources collected from family planning providers and administrators to design and deliver innovative, high-quality sexual and reproductive health services to youth in school-based settings. The toolkit is structured around four foundational approaches that are integral to providing high-quality and effective family planning care to youth: embedding equity, maximizing outreach and access, leveraging partnerships, and prioritizing adolescent-friendly care. The authors interviewed providers from programs and clinics across the United States that are using innovative approaches to improve family planning service delivery in school-based settings. In addition to resources, the toolkit offers in-depth case studies with recommendations for family planning providers and administrators who are interested in implementing similar approaches in their schools.
