Teacher Candidate IEP Checklist and Teacher Mentor IEP Observation Form

How To Have A Fantastic IEP Meeting

This set of resources from High Tech High provides teacher candidates with guidelines on how to prepare, facilitate, and document an individualized education plan (IEP) meeting and provides mentors with a rubric for how to assess IEP observations. The IEP Checklist outlines facilitation strategies for special education teacher candidates to employ during the meeting (e.g., providing sample agendas, maintaining active listening, securing translators when necessary) and details recommendations for next steps after the meeting. The accompanying Mentor IEP Observation Form is an administrative document meant to be used by mentors to prompt and assess the teacher candidates’ IEP meeting.
