Tarleton State University Case Study: Accelerating Into Scaled Yearlong Residencies for All Candidates

August 2024 | US Prep

This report from US Prep details a case study of Tarleton State University and its transition to a residency model in 2020. The report highlights the redesign process, which involved creating relationships with two school districts, scaling up support for licensure exams, and introducing specialized, full-time site coordinators. The case study includes best practices and important considerations for programs considering similar transformations. For instance, Tarleton State University faculty found that it was necessary to provide substantial stipends to student teachers and to redesign coursework to better align with the needs of students engaging in a residency-based experience. The report also highlights efforts from the redesign to more intentionally include culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogies. Educator preparation programs considering a transition to a residency model may benefit from this report.
