The Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP) of the Stanford Graduate School of Education (GSE) seeks to prepare and support teacher leaders in creating equitable and successful schools and classrooms. This document is the syllabus for the third course in their Secondary Teaching Seminar series, entitled “EDUC246C: Assessment for Learning and Equity.” The course is designed to develop teacher candidates’ knowledge, skills, and strategies for designing and implementing multiple assessment tools in their classroom that support the learning and achievement of all students. The syllabus includes a robust list of readings and online resources. Teacher candidates will analyze their own student teaching practice in a collaborative environment with a supervisory mentor as well as prepare for the edTPA, a performance-based, subject-specific teacher preparation assessment. Course topics covered include state and federal testing policies, assessment design, grading and reporting, standardized achievement tests, and more.
