Scaling the Site Coordinator Role

January 2022 | US Prep

This report from The University-School Partnerships for the Renewal of Educator Preparation (US PREP) examines the way three programs in the US PREP network have designed and scaled the site coordinator role to support program redesigns and extend effective, yearlong clinical experiences to all programs and graduates. Site coordinators are specialized full-time faculty members who supervise resident cohorts; select, train, and support mentor teachers; facilitate quarterly district partnership meetings, and teach methods courses. Scaling up the site coordinator role as a bridge between the university program and the district has proven to be an effective investment for many programs in the US PREP network. The report includes best practices from Texas Tech University, the University of Houston, and Southeastern Louisiana University. These practices include transforming hiring practices, the introduction of initial and ongoing training, and the introduction of a Professional Development Facilitator role to better support and develop site coordinators.
