Putting Teacher Warmth and Availability to Support Learning Into Practice Reflection Guide

Dorothy Steele and Becki Cohn-Vargas
September 2013 | Corwin

This resource is from the Corwin companion site for Identify Safe Classrooms, Grades K–5: Places to Belong and Learn by Dorothy Steele and Becki Cohn-Vargas. This resource invites teachers to consider ways of building more positive relationships with students by focusing on rapport. This includes ways of getting to know them better, as well as structuring opportunities for students to build rapport with each other. The guide begins by asking teachers to reflect on their own ways of building rapport and sharing feelings. The tool then asks teachers to consider specific students with whom they can build more positive relationships and provides examples of strategies teachers can use to connect to students in the classroom.
