Putting Emotional and Physical Comfort Into Practice Graphic Organizer
This resource is from the Corwin companion site for Identify Safe Classrooms, Grades K–5: Places to Belong and Learn by Dorothy Steele and Becki Cohn-Vargas. This graphic organizer asks teachers to consider the range of opportunities they have for creating inviting and inclusive physical classroom environments. The organizer provides opportunity for teachers to reflect on multiple aspects of their classroom environments, from classroom norms to photos and student work samples. It also invites teachers to practice ways of turning potentially negative framing into more positive framing. For example, it asks teachers to reflect on how to shift from “you better study or you will fail” to framing that helps students see the value of preparing for activities.
