Principalship and Administration for Educational Organizations Syllabus
This syllabus from the University of Connecticut Administrator Preparation Program (UCAPP) outlines a hybrid course (EDLR 5401) that introduces students to concepts and skills that are fundamental to principalship and successful administration of educational organizations. The overarching goal of the course is to provide pragmatic knowledge that will give principal candidates an understanding and appreciation of the complexity of educational organizations. Required texts include Reframing Organizations: Artistry, Choice, and Leadership (Bolman and Deal, 2017) and So You Want to Talk About Race (Oluo, 2018). In eight sessions, students study making sense of organizations and the principalship, the structural frame, the human resources frame, equity in education, the political frame, the symbolic frame, and improving leadership practice.
