This set of resources from the Principal Preparation for Excellence and Equity in Rural Schools Program at the University of North Carolina–Greensboro is designed as a "day in the life of a new principal" learning experience. Tasks include a teacher growth conference, conferencing with an angry parent, resolving conflicts between faculty members, responding to equity-based issues of students in a school, and other authentic problems that confront a principal every day, such as requests from superintendents, demands from community members, and political matters. These performance tasks and scenarios are designed to be assessed by experts in the field, such as sitting superintendents, former principals, currently practicing principals, and other central office–based personnel. Actor notes are included, and a rubric is provided to provide principal interns with insights into growth plans for the months that follow these daylong events.
