From a Nation at Risk to a Nation at Hope
The Aspen Institute National Commission on Social, Emotional, and Academic Development authored the From a Nation at Risk to a Nation at Hope report to engage and energize communities in re-envisioning learning to support the whole child. This report addresses the characteristics that children should possess—skills, values, ability, and attitudes—in order to prosper in the classroom. With specific regard to educator preparation, the Commission urges programs to redesign their frameworks and curriculum to allow all graduates to be knowledgeable of child and adolescent development and the science of learning. The report offers practice, policy, and research recommendations to support the social, emotional, and academic development of children.
