This syllabus for Bank Street Graduate School of Education's Mathematics for Teachers in Diverse and Inclusive Educational Settings course is designed to provide a deeper understanding of what effective math teaching looks like. This 14-session, 2-credit course investigates the ways that confidence affects a teacher’s ability to make deeper meaning of mathematics, and the ways that deeper understanding of mathematics can enhance student learning. The course uses a constructivist framework that incorporates math games and math discourse, focusing on the development of conceptual understanding. The syllabus outlines essential questions, assignments, readings, activities, and discussion prompts for each of the 14 course sessions.
