Making Self-Paced Learning Work for Younger Kids

November 2021 | Edutopia

In this Edutopia video, teachers at Myers Elementary in Pennsylvania have adapted Modern Classroom’s Blended Learning Model to encourage self-paced, individualized learning after returning to in-person learning following COVID school closures. The Blended Learning Model allows teachers to differentiate so that students can work at their own pace to achieve mastery of the content. Teachers demonstrate how they use color-coded guides, videos with prompts, and options for must-do, should-do, and aspire-to-do activities for students. Teachers have also seen social emotional learning benefits as peers have begun to collaborate and help their classmates build understanding.
