Paul Yumba and Kevin Bryant
April 2023 | High Tech High

This syllabus from the High Tech High Graduate School of Education encourages educational leaders to focus on the basic principles of educational leadership and how it unfolds in school systems, influences decision-making processes, and impacts teaching and learning. The course explores variables that affect innovation, effectiveness, and efficiency in leadership, placing emphasis on motivation, decision-making, time-management team-building, communication skills, and diversity issues. The syllabus includes lectures, scaffolded breakout discussions, videos, oral presentations, and written and project-based assignments, all designed to increase leaders’ awareness of their leadership attributes and a greater understanding of the complex issues facing current educational leaders. This syllabus would be particularly helpful for leader preparation program administrators and faculty.
