Introduction to Subject Specific Methods in the General Education Classroom Syllabus

This syllabus outlines objectives, readings, and assignments for High Tech High’s Introduction to Subject Specific Methods in the General Education Classroom course (HTH 101B). This course provides an introductory understanding of pedagogical approaches to instruction for students with mild to moderate disabilities. The course aims to familiarize candidates with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to become proficient in implementing evidence-based and multifaceted methodologies and strategies necessary in teaching and engaging students from diverse populations with disabilities. Candidates learn how to provide equitable access to the California k-12 core academic content for their students, and the course focuses on how to implement, adapt, modify, and evaluate instruction within a variety of settings, including the general education classroom. This three-session, 1-credit course also familiarizes candidates with laws and regulations pertaining to creating an environment conducive to learning for students with disabilities.
