This syllabus for High Tech High’s Introduction to Engaging Students With Diverse Needs in Learning course includes objectives, required readings, and reflection prompts to help candidates explore the role of the special educator in meeting students’ diverse learning needs. The two-session, 1-credit course introduces candidates to the assessment process when identifying students with disabilities under the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). In addition, candidates learn about the key components of comprehensive assessment and how to use multiple sources of information for progress monitoring and decision-making regarding eligibility for services.
