This article from the University of Kentucky (UK) College of Education shares that the number of incoming students enrolling in programs that lead to teacher certification is growing at UK. Preliminary data show the UK College of Education’s incoming classes of teacher preparation program students have grown in size by 83% between Fall 2019 and Fall 2022, increasing from 118 to 216, and in candidate diversity, with the number of students of color increasing by 275% during the same time period. Communication efforts, similar to those employed by the Kentucky Department of Education’s GoTeachKY program, focus on elevating the teaching profession to help students see the value of majors in teacher education.
