This syllabus from High Tech High Graduate School of Education (HTH GSE) for course EDU 500: Foundations of Classroom Culture is designed to support teacher candidates in developing tools that allow them to create and sustain a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom culture. This course, structured to combine theory and practice, utilizes course readings and “Put It to Practice”' assignments to support candidates in their understanding and application of student-centered classroom practices. The course builds on SEL pedagogies to contribute to HTH GSE’s commitment to developing reflective practitioner leaders who create and sustain innovative, authentic, rigorous learning environments for all students. Course readings, assignments, and assessments align with fieldwork experiences, build on feedback, and ensure that candidates are learning, applying, and reflecting on the competencies specified by theCalifornia Teaching Performance Expectations.
