This research brief by the Wallace Foundation summarizes a report from the University of Virginia, How Do Districts Implement Equity in Afterschool and Summer Programs? This research studied how school districts with strong commitments to classroom equity have approached equity in their out-of-school-time (OST) programs. The study looked at seven large schools and three organizations around one county in Virginia and found that districts promoted equity in a variety of ways, and they also faced challenges in integrating equity into their out-of-school programs. The brief concludes with a series of recommendations directed to school and district leaders and funders.
