This syllabus for High Tech High’s Equity, Cultural Diversity, and English Learners course outlines objectives, required readings, and reflection prompts to help candidates understand teaching in a diverse setting. This two-session, 1-credit course is designed to help candidates analyze contemporary issues in California schools related to culture, cultural heritage, ethnicity, language, age, religion, socioeconomic status, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, and abilities and disabilities of individuals served. The course also requires candidates to learn about the historical and cultural traditions of the major ethnic groups in California. Candidates are also expected to complete a cultural autobiography and a cultural diversity lesson plan, among other assignments.
