Engaging the Community for Effective Schools Syllabus and Course Assignment

This course syllabus for EDAD 508/512 from the Graduate School of Education and Counseling at Lewis and Clark College defines community engagement, identifies critical collaborators, and shares inclusive involvement strategies. In this course, leader preparation students discuss successful community engagement models and use district demographic data, needs assessments, and socioeconomic factors to develop their own community engagement plans that are asset based and take diversity (race, ethnicity, disability, and religion) into account. This syllabus includes required readings aligned to the class schedule, goals and standards, and options for a key assessment options paper. The accompanying slides illustrate one assignment.
