This video recording of EdPrepLab’s fall 2023 policy briefing shares the Learning Policy Institute’s newest research on the condition of the teacher workforce. Researchers Emma Garcia and Susan Kemper Patrick discuss some of their recent research into how national data informs state teacher policies. The briefing covers an interactive map that shows teaching attractiveness and teacher equity ratings by state. Presenters offer insights into state strategies and highlight indicators of interest, including: average starting teacher salary, school leadership, school vacancies, teacher preparation enrollment and completion, racial diversity, and outstanding student loans. The briefing concludes with a short question and answer opportunity and then participants are invited to consider what stands out to them in their own state’s data and to consider what ways these reports or indicators could be leveraged in their own policy engagement efforts.
