The Stanford Teacher Education Program (STEP) of the Stanford Graduate School of Education (GSE) seeks to prepare and support teacher leaders in creating equitable and successful schools and classrooms. This document is the syllabus for the course entitled Education 261A: Distance Teaching and Learning. The course explores the basics of distance teaching and learning while providing participants with questions and tools to help them make informed decisions when planning or leading lessons in a distance learning format. The assignments challenge participants to evaluate distance and blended learning designs and ensure equity for all learners. Coursework topics include COVID-19, equity and social justice, assessment, cultural competence, and more.
