This syllabus for Bank Street Graduate School of Education's Developmental Variations course provides goals, topic sequence, requirements, readings, and assignments. The course is designed to enhance students’ understanding of the educational, social, cultural, and developmental implications of disability. This advanced-level course assumes the student has a foundational knowledge of child development, and builds on that knowledge to further explore disabilities when compared to typical patterns of growth and development. The course emphasizes that ableism can be eradicated through education, and that developmental variations can be approached from a strength-based, person-centered perspective.
