Contemporary Educational Policy Issues Syllabus
This syllabus from the University of Connecticut Administrator Preparation Program (UCAPP) outlines a distance learning flex course that introduces students to the formation and implementation of education policy with an emphasis on using policy to lead. Students will use their school, district, state, and federal environments as a means to develop understandings of the political dimensions of the education system. Students will engage in the development of school leadership skills through policy analysis. Nine required texts and six sessions address the following topics: what policy is; layers of policy, including federal, state, and district policy agendas; policy instruments and levers; policy implementation and leadership; and policy implications for the future.
