Child Trauma Toolkit for Educators

October 2008 | National Child Traumatic Stress Network

This toolkit from the National Child Traumatic Stress Network offers teachers and parents an introduction to and explanation of the physical and emotional impacts of trauma. The toolkit identifies specific observable behaviors by age group to help teachers identify potential trauma exposure in students. The toolkit also includes suggestions for creating trauma-aware classrooms where all students can thrive. It also offers suggestions for educator self-care, acknowledging the secondary trauma that teachers can face as they strive to be responsive to their students’ needs and behaviors. This resource will be useful in teacher preparation programs as well as professional development for practicing educators.
