Building a Strong, Sustainable Teacher Workforce
Developed for state policymakers and their staff, this webinar focused on evidence-based policies and practices to recruit and retain high-quality teachers, especially in hard-to-staff subjects, schools, and regions. Learning Policy Institute President Dr. Linda Darling-Hammond gave an in-depth review of ways to promote a stable and high-quality teacher workforce and provided findings related to the cause and consequence of teacher shortages. Additionally, Chairman of the Education Committee for the Indiana House of Representatives Robert Behning and former South Dakota Secretary of Education Melody Schopp shared best practices from the steps their states have taken to address teacher shortages and strengthen the teaching profession. The webinar was hosted by the Learning Policy Institute, the Council of Chief State School Officers, and the National Conference of State Legislatures.
