Alverno College Doctor of Education Program Handbook

December 2022 | Alverno College

This handbook from Alverno College provides detailed information on the college’s Doctor of Education program. Launched in spring 2020, this online EdD program initially offered specializations in K–12 school leadership and higher education leadership. In fall 2020, it added pathways in higher education teaching and a track for “all but dissertation” (ABD) students. Open to those with a master’s degree, the program spans six semesters, with students enrolling in 9 credits each in fall, spring, and summer. It includes two in-person residencies: one at the start and one at the end of the program, fostering campus connection and community engagement. The handbook details the program’s structure, coursework, dissertation requirements, and assessment methods. Applicants for superintendency licensure must hold a principal’s license and meet Wisconsin state requirements. Alverno College is renowned for its innovative ability-based assessment model.
