Adult Transformative Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and the Standards of Effective Practice Toolkit
This toolkit from the Minnesota Department of Education seeks to cultivate educators' personal social and emotional learning (SEL) and development so that they are equipped to build strong and respectful relationships with students. This resource addresses physical, psychological, cognitive, social, and emotional domains, aligning with whole child practices in learning environments. It describes transformative SEL as a process whereby educators and students are co-learning to critically examine root causes of inequity and to develop collaborative solutions that lead to personal, communal, and societal well-being. This toolkit could be incorporated into preparation coursework, aligning adult SEL competencies with Standards of Effective Practice, and districts could leverage the toolkit in professional development sessions. The toolkit provides SEL goals, benchmarks, learning targets, reflection questions, and curated resources for each standard of effective practice.
