As poet, author, and social activist Langston Hughes wrote, “If the house is not yet finished, don’t be discouraged, builder!” Recent events have highlighted the deep divisions in our nation, and the repair, reimagining, and rebuilding that remains to be done. Education still holds the power of liberation and can bend the arc of history ever closer to justice.

The Educator Preparation Laboratory’s first Member Virtual Fall Forum featured an address on The Future of Educator Preparation by Linda Darling-Hammond, President and CEO of Learning Policy Institute, followed by a fireside chat with Shael Polakow-Suransky, President of Bank Street Graduate School of Education.

The Fall Forum was a time for preparation programs and district partners to come together to inspire, learn, connect, and offer support during these tumultuous times. Member convenings are an essential component of creating community and professional learning circles outside our regular venues as we continue our focus on preparing teachers and leaders who are able to face the ongoing challenges and create new realities for our education system.

Presentations, small group discussions, and workshops addressed topics such as research on deeper learning and equity in educator preparation; local, state, and national educator preparation policy; building the early childhood education workforce; antiracist pedagogy and programs; and innovative practices in the time of COVID and beyond.
