A smiling older man.

This EdPrepLab brief highlights how the Leaders for Equity and Democracy (LEAD) program at the University of California, Berkeley, redesigned the ED Year 1 course, Methods in Educational and Psychological Research, to align with Science of Learning and Development (SoLD) principles. The course equips doctoral education students to carry out autobiographical research, developing self-awareness and a deeper connection to their school communities. This approach reflects SoLD principles by integrating culturally responsive practices, promoting identity development, and supporting social-emotional growth in school leaders. The brief presents a model for university faculty seeking to guide students in becoming equity-informed leaders who advance transformative practices in education.
