Principal Apprenticeships in Action: Insights from Alaska, North Dakota, and Virginia Video
This 60-minute webinar from National Center for Grow Your Own highlights how states are developing Principal Registered Apprenticeship Programs (P-RAPs). In July 2023, the U.S. Department of Labor approved the “principal” occupation to be eligible for registered apprenticeship. As such, P-RAPs offer a model to create a pathway from teaching to leadership. Drawing from the insights of education leaders from Alaska, North Dakota, and Virginia, the webinar explores P-RAP program structures, processes, successes and challenges. The panelists discuss the importance of providing on-the-job learning, in-depth mentoring and teaching, and partnerships between institutions of higher education and school districts. Moreover, each program shares its successes in supporting participants with completing their programs and obtaining principal licensure. Lastly, the webinar shares national guideline standards for K–12 P-RAPs authored by the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction and the National Center for Grow Your Own.
