Holidays, Celebrations, and Traumatically Bereaved Children
This webinar course from The National Child Traumatic Stress Network educates those in child caring positions, such as educators and family members, on how cultural and religious rituals, holidays, school events, and personal anniversaries can support and challenge grieving children. Participants will be introduced to childhood traumatic grief (CTG) and prolonged grief disorder (PGD) and learn how to offer practical, meaningful support to children experiencing CTG and PGD. This course is one part of the Child Traumatic Grief and Traumatic Separation Series, which is free with the creation of an account and can count toward continuing education credit. As the course explains, 1 in 11 U.S. children will experience bereavement before the age of 18. Knowledge of effective ways to support children in school and at home and what common triggers may challenge grieving children is thus necessary in attending to the whole child and enacting trauma-informed practices.
