This research article from the Journal of Professional Capital and Community shares findings from a study that explored district–university partnerships established as part of the Equity Centered Principal Pipeline Initiative (ECPI). The ECPI is a 5-year national initiative funded by the Wallace Foundation that involves eight large urban districts in the United States. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study administered a social network survey to identify patterns in the development of district–university partnerships and collected qualitative data to understand how these patterns arose. The study’s quantitative findings showed that university partners often served a critical role in facilitating and maintaining collaboration across diverse groups and that these ties created a more connected ecosystem. Qualitative findings revealed stable staffing among university partners, a shared commitment to equity, and externally imposed collaboration structures. The article concludes with recommendations for districts and universities to strengthen partnerships, address disparities in leadership preparation, and improve school-level equity outcomes.
