Creativity Challenge: Arts Education in San Francisco Bay Area Schools

Elise Levin-Güracar and Katrina Woodworth
December 2022 | SRI Education

This research report from SRI Education presents findings from a 2019–2020 study assessing California schools’ arts programs relative to state goals. Overall, the research shows that arts education in California has improved since 2006, when a similar study examined the systems of support for these goals. The authors attribute this improvement to increases in funding; advocacy efforts; changes to the California accountability system; and increased support from school districts, counties, and partner organizations. This publication offers ways policy can be used to continue improvements in arts programming.
