Membership Overview

Thank you for your interest in joining the Educator Preparation Laboratory (EdPrepLab).  We are a growing community of teacher and leader preparation programs committed to advancing best practices in deeper learning and equity through research, practice, and policy.

We welcome self-nominations from programs interested in advancing deeper learning- and equity-focused preparation for their teacher and leader candidates. Programs seeking information on the principles and practices aligned with this sort of preparation should see our work on deeper learning.

EdPrepLab has two membership categories, Network Membership and Affiliate Membership. Below is a short summary of each category, followed by detailed information, criteria, and benefits of membership. Programs interested in participating should consider which category of membership is most appropriate given their alignment to deeper learning elements, resources, practices, and aspirations and should designate their desired category in their nomination. The EdPrepLab Membership Committee will make the final determination on membership category.

Network Membership: Programs in this category have been consistently engaged in deeper learning and equity practices for some time across teacher and/or leadership preparation programs and have systems, policies, and norms in place to support the work. They have evidence of successfully preparing teachers and leaders for deeper learning and can provide research, reports, and other documentation and artifacts that demonstrate their practices and outcomes. Qualifying Network Member programs engage in continuous improvement; are eager to learn from others; and commit to sharing examples of their processes, practices, and outcomes to inform other programs, policymakers, and the wider field of educator preparation.

Affiliate Membership: Programs in this category are committed to advancing deeper learning- and equity-focused practices but see themselves primarily as learners as they work toward these goals. As learners in this space, these programs may have some deeper learning and equity practices in place but aspire to greater consistency across pathways or are in the process of considering how to build structures, policies, and norms to support the work. These programs may be seeking to collect more or higher-quality evidence that demonstrates their practices and outcomes. As with Network Member programs, Affiliate Member programs should be interested in participating in collaborative improvement through both sharing and listening.

Institutions seeking membership for both teacher and leader preparation programs are required to have representatives from both programs actively participating in EdPrepLab initiatives. If one of the programs meets the criteria for Network Membership while the other meets the criteria for Affiliate Membership, both should be included in a nomination for Network Membership.
