The Bank Street National Center for Children in Poverty and the Bank Street Center on Culture, Race, and Equity collaborated on the New York City Pre-K Leadership Study, which evaluates how early care and education leaders provide supports (e.g., guidance about their use of effective practices, coaching, and the facilitation of peer-to-peer learning and professional development outside of the program) to teachers that foster strong social and emotional skills for children. Preschool pre-service training was identified as a significant predictor of leaders using a promising strategy in classroom visits to promote teachers’ use of effective practices. The report concludes with policy and practice recommendations.
